44fd53fee3 Using @return never documentation on always-throw-function
This helps phan to detect unreachable code and also impossible types

b4849e03b7 Use the unserialized form of image metadata internally
Image metadata is usually a serialized string representing an array.
Passing the string around internally and having everything unserialize
it is an awkward convention.

Also, many image handlers were reading the file twice: once for
getMetadata() and again for getImageSize(). Often getMetadata()
would actually read the width and height and then throw it away.

So, in filerepo:

* Add File::getMetadataItem(), which promises to allow partial
  loading of metadata per my proposal on T275268 in a future commit.
* Add File::getMetadataArray(), which returns the unserialized array.
  Some file handlers were returning non-serializable strings from
  getMetadata(), so I gave them a legacy array form ['_error' => ...]
* Changed MWFileProps to return the array form of metadata.
* Deprecate the weird File::getImageSize(). It was apparently not
  called by anything, but was overridden by UnregisteredLocalFile.
* Wrap serialize/unserialize with File::getMetadataForDb() and
  File::loadMetadataFromDb() in preparation for T275268.

In MediaHandler:

* Merged MediaHandler::getImageSize() and MediaHandler::getMetadata()
  into getSizeAndMetadata(). Deprecated the old methods.
* Instead of isMetadataValid() we now have isFileMetadataValid(), which
  only gets a File object, so it can decide what data it needs to load.
* Simplified getPageDimensions() by having it return false for non-paged
  media. It was not called in that case, but was implemented anyway.

In specific handlers:

* Rename DjVuHandler::getUnserializedMetadata() and
  extractTreesFromMetadata() for clarity. "Metadata" in these function
  names meant an XML string.
* Updated DjVuImage::getImageSize() to provide image sizes in the new
  style.
* In ExifBitmapHandler, getRotationForExif() now takes just the
  Orientation tag, rather than a serialized string. Also renamed for
  clarity.
* In GIFMetadataExtractor, return the width, height and bits per channel
  instead of throwing them away. There was some conflation in
  decodeBPP() which I picked apart. Refer to GIF89a section 18.
* In JpegMetadataExtractor, process the SOF0/SOF2 segment to extract
  bits per channel, width, height and components (channel count). This
  is essentially a port of PHP's getimagesize(), so should be bugwards
  compatible.
* In PNGMetadataExtractor, return the width and height, which were
  previously assigned to unused local variables. I verified the
  implementation by referring to the specification.
* In SvgHandler, retain the version validation from unpackMetadata(),
  but rename the function since it now takes an array as input.

In tests:

* In ExifBitmapTest, refactored some tests by using a provider.
* In GIFHandlerTest and PNGHandlerTest, I removed the tests in which
  getMetadata() returns null, since it doesn't make sense when ported to
  getMetadataArray(). I added tests for empty arrays instead.
* In tests, I retained serialization of input data since I figure it's
  useful to confirm that existing database rows will continue to be read
  correctly. I removed serialization of expected values, replacing them
  with plain data.
* In tests, I replaced access to private class constants like
  BROKEN_FILE with string literals, since stability is essential. If
  the class constant changes, the test should fail.

Elsewhere:

* In maintenance/refreshImageMetadata.php, I removed the check for
  shrinking image metadata, since it's not easy to implement and is
  not future compatible. Image metadata is expected to shrink in
  future.

9489ff2f53 Document and fix UploadBase::$mFinalExtension being null
While trying to understand T273249, I followed all code
paths and found one that can result in mFinalExtension being
null: when a file is stashed, it gets a temporary name
without an extension.

This patch fixes a bunch of usages where this null might
cause type errors.

20d06b34bb Safer autoloading with respect to file-scope code
Many files were in the autoloader despite having potentially harmful
file-scope code.

* Exclude all CommandLineInc maintenance scripts from the autoloader.
* Introduce "NO_AUTOLOAD" tag which excludes the file containing it
  from the autoloader. Use it on CommandLineInc.php and a few
  suspicious-looking files without classes in case they are refactored
  to add classes in the future.
* Add a test which parses all non-PSR4 class files and confirms that
  they do not contain dangerous file-scope code. It's slow (15s) but
  its results were enlightening.
* Several maintenance scripts define constants in the file scope,
  intending to modify the behaviour of MediaWiki. Either move the
  define() to a later setup function, or protect with NO_AUTOLOAD.
* Use require_once consistently with Maintenance.php and
  doMaintenance.php, per the original convention which is supposed to
  allow one maintenance script to use the class of another maintenance
  script. Using require breaks autoloading of these maintenance class
  files.
* When Maintenance.php is included, check if MediaWiki has already
  started, and if so, return early. Revert the fix for T250003 which
  is incompatible with this safety measure. Hopefully it was superseded
  by splitting out the class file.
* In runScript.php add a redundant PHP_SAPI check since it does some
  things in file-scope code before any other check will be run.
* Change the if(false) class_alias(...) to something more hackish and
  more compatible with the new test.
* Some site-related scripts found Maintenance.php in a non-standard way.
  Use the standard way.
* fileOpPerfTest.php called error_reporting(). Probably debugging code
  left in; removed.
* Moved mediawiki.compress.7z registration from the class file to the
  caller.

1fc8d79ac6 Remove documentation that literally repeats the code
For example, documenting the method getUser() with "get the User
object" does not add any information that's not already there.
But I have to read the text first to understand that it doesn't
document anything that's not already obvious from the code.

Some of this is from a time when we had a PHPCS sniff that was
complaining when a line like `@param User $user` doesn't end
with some descriptive text. Some users started adding text like
`@param User $user The User` back then. Let's please remove
this.

47a1619027 Remove terminating line breaks from debug messages
A terminating line break has not been required in wfDebug() since 2014,
however no migration was done. Some of these line breaks found their way
into LoggerInterface::debug() calls, where they mess up the formatting
of the debug log.

So, remove terminating line breaks from wfDebug() and
LoggerInterface::debug() calls.

Also:
* Fix the stripping of leading line breaks from the log header emitted
  by Setup.php. This feature, accidentally broken in 2014, allows
  requests to be distinguished in the log file.
* Avoid using the global variable $self.
* Move the logging of the client IP back to Setup.php. It was moved to
  WebRequest in the hopes that it would not always be needed, however
  $wgRequest->getIP() is now called unconditionally a few lines up in
  Setup.php. This means that it is put in its proper place after the
  "start request" message.
* Wrap the log header code in a closure so that variables like $name do
  not leak into global scope.
* In Linker.php, remove a few instances of an unnecessary second
  parameter to wfDebug().

7c9e19ed5e mime: Document null return from MimeAnalyzer::improveTypeFromExtension()
This method returns null when $mime is 'unknown/unknown' and the file
extension is unknown to MediaWiki. The inline documentation and @return
annotation omitted this.

I don't think this was an intentional design choice, but it's the
existing behavior and I'm not sure it's safe to change.

Since it is the existing behavior, document it and add a test case, to
ensure that any changes to this behavior are intentional.

Updated Doxygen markup in several .php files triggering warnings when mwdocgen.php is executed. Removed
obsolete settings MSCGEN_PATH and TCL_SUBST from Doxyfile. The former would generate a warning in 1.8.16
while TCL support was removed in 1.8.18. Since TCL_SUBST was blank anyway, it was removed prior to getting
to .18 in production. Increased DOT_GRAPH_MAX_NODES from 50 to 200 since Doxygen complained about it being
too low for API and Maintenance.

6bf01cfaa3 resourceloader: Use FileContentsHasher batching in FileModule::getFileHashes
Instead of hashing each file separately, hash them in a batch.
Previous research on this area of code has identified the suppressing
and restoring of warnings to have a measurable cost, which is why
this was optimised in 3621ad0f82. However, we never really made
use if it (aisde from the 2:1 change in that commit itself), because
we always call it with a single item, turn it into an array, do the
hash and then merge it again.

Instead, we now let it handle a single module's set of files all
at once. Given that this no longer exposes an array of hashes,
also update the (private) signature of getFileHashes to reflect this.

This means all file modules will have their version bumped during the
next MediaWiki release. In general this happens for most releases
and weekly branches already (due to localisation update, general
maintenance, linting changes, and other internal changes). But,
noting here for future reference as this might not be obvious from
the diff.
