cache * Introduced a new system for localisation caching. The system is based around fast fetches of individual messages, minimising memory overhead and startup time in the typical case. It handles both core messages (formerly in Language.php) and extension messages (formerly in MessageCache.php). Profiling indicates a significant win for average throughput. 2009-06-28 07:11:43 +00:00

resources Improve mediaWiki.parser() (which is a very strange name for a function that expands $1, $2, ... in i18n messages) to use .replace() with a callback, so it will handle edge cases like more than 9 parameters ($10 would be treated as $1 followed by a literal 0) or a parameter's value containing $n (which would then get substituted again). Code written by Neil Kandalgaonkar and trivially modified by me. 2010-10-08 10:49:32 +00:00

== MediaWiki ==

MediaWiki is the software used for Wikipedia [http://www.wikipedia.org/] and the
other Wikimedia Foundation websites. Compared to other wikis, it has an
excellent range of features and support for high-traffic websites using
multiple servers (Wikimedia sites peak in the 60000+ requests per second range
as of November 2008).

While quite usable on smaller sites, you may find you have to "roll your own"
local documentation, and some aspects of configuration may seem overcomplicated
because MediaWiki is primarily targeted as an in-house tool.

The MediaWiki software was written by:
* Lee Daniel Crocker
* Magnus Manske
* Jan Hidders
* Brion Vibber
* Axel Boldt
* Geoffrey T. Dairiki
* Tomasz Wegrzanowski
* Erik Moeller
* Tim Starling
* Gabriel Wicke
* Ashar Voultoiz
* Evan Prodromou
* Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason
* Niklas Laxström
* Domas Mituzas
* Rob Church
* Jens Frank
* Yuri Astrakhan
* Aryeh Gregor
* Aaron Schulz
* Several others (view CREDITS for a more complete list)

Many thanks to the Wikimedia regulars for testing and suggestions.
