cache * Introduced a new system for localisation caching. The system is based around fast fetches of individual messages, minimising memory overhead and startup time in the typical case. It handles both core messages (formerly in Language.php) and extension messages (formerly in MessageCache.php). Profiling indicates a significant win for average throughput. 2009-06-28 07:11:43 +00:00

includes Fix for catchable fatals thrown on invalid titles, follow-up to miscellaneous Context commit pulled out of a hat (let's go for r85252). We must always have a Title object, even on invalid titles, for the purposes of not melting the Skin. The previous method was to make that a barely-existent half-title from SpecialPage::getTitleFor( 'Badtitle' ), where that is a special page which is not actually defined, but exists in the localisation alias lists. Instead, subclass Title as an explicit BadTitle which we can test for. The badtitle error page, which has empty string for its name in all forms, would probably be quite a good test of our JavaScript error checking. 2011-04-04 23:09:21 +00:00

INSTALL Require at least PHP 5.2.3. There's not much point increasing the minimum to 5.2.0, as I argued at http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2010-November/050138.html . But requiring 5.2.3 is a significant win. Updates r83217. 2011-03-14 10:42:07 +00:00

== MediaWiki ==

MediaWiki is the software used for Wikipedia [http://www.wikipedia.org/] and the
other Wikimedia Foundation websites. Compared to other wikis, it has an
excellent range of features and support for high-traffic websites using
multiple servers (Wikimedia sites peak in the 60000+ requests per second range
as of November 2008).

While quite usable on smaller sites, you may find you have to "roll your own"
local documentation, and some aspects of configuration may seem overcomplicated
because MediaWiki is primarily targeted as an in-house tool.

The MediaWiki software was written by:
* Lee Daniel Crocker
* Magnus Manske
* Jan Hidders
* Brion Vibber
* Axel Boldt
* Geoffrey T. Dairiki
* Tomasz Wegrzanowski
