cache * Introduced a new system for localisation caching. The system is based around fast fetches of individual messages, minimising memory overhead and startup time in the typical case. It handles both core messages (formerly in Language.php) and extension messages (formerly in MessageCache.php). Profiling indicates a significant win for average throughput. 2009-06-28 07:11:43 +00:00

resources Making a start with $.jsMessage. A more flexible way for messages. Supports grouping them and making the replacing of previous messages into option (the current jsMsg() function always replaces older messages. Time has shown that there is need for the ability to show older messages as well and grouping to avoid different scripts from erasing or clearing eachother's output (current Commons and a few other wikis have created similar functions to enable keeping previous messages) 2011-02-04 02:17:14 +00:00

== MediaWiki ==

MediaWiki is the software used for Wikipedia [http://www.wikipedia.org/] and the
other Wikimedia Foundation websites. Compared to other wikis, it has an
excellent range of features and support for high-traffic websites using
multiple servers (Wikimedia sites peak in the 60000+ requests per second range
as of November 2008).

While quite usable on smaller sites, you may find you have to "roll your own"
local documentation, and some aspects of configuration may seem overcomplicated
because MediaWiki is primarily targeted as an in-house tool.

The MediaWiki software was written by:
* Lee Daniel Crocker
* Magnus Manske
* Jan Hidders
* Brion Vibber
* Axel Boldt
